Today the good people of Calvary Baptist Church in Republic, Missouri voted to call me as their next Senior Pastor.
What a joy to have this sweet congregation confer their trust and sense of the Lord’s leading. At every point in the process they have demonstrated a generosity and kindness to our family. We are especially grateful to the pastor search team, personnel team, and deacon body. Having walked thru this season of waiting on the Lord’s direction, there is a refreshing wave of anointing in our lives. Praise be to our savior!
Waiting hasn’t been easy. But in His kindness, the Lord never left me to myself. Prayer, scripture, close friends, and a faithful wife have been my companions these past months. God’s grace has been visible in these wonderful companions!
The Lord has used these last five years to grow us in ways we couldn’t have imagined when coming—we leave differently than we arrived. Southwestern Seminary is a special place and saying goodbye is bittersweet. As we say our farewells, there are a few who have been particularly special in our journey:
The Mallette family will forever be indebted to Dr. and Mrs. Paige Patterson for allowing us to serve in such a meaningful way. We have learned so much from them and are grateful to God for their investment in our lives and young ministry.
It’s not possible to have worked for a better man or preacher than Dr. Steven Smith. The Lord graced my life in a special way when He allowed our paths to cross. Steven, Ashley, Jewell, Sidney, Shep, Josh, Scott, as well as Dr. Bailey and Mrs. Sandy are our family now.
We are forever grateful to those church families who have held us in trust these last few years. To the members of Travis Avenue Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Kemp-TX, First Baptist Mansfield-TX, and the dozens of churches who have let me fill their pulpit I can only express our deepest thanks.
Thank you to Drs. Jon Wood & Thomas White for hiring me into the Student Services family, to Dr. Jason Duesing for your wise counsel, and to Dr. Tommy Kiker for walking with me in my PhD studies. To my comrades, Dr. Kyle Walker, Dr. Bruce McCoy, Daniel Dickard, Kevin Hennessey, and Andy Morris—heaven only knows what your friendship has meant these past months and years. I love each of you.
Special thanks are due to Mrs. Meagan Lacey. No one has served this office and our family more faithfully than Meagan. We are grateful for your friendship and loyalty these past few years, and are excited for you as you begin your next chapter.
And then there was one. The one. My one. Many women have done noble deeds Mrs. Mallette, but you surpass them all! Thank you for your steady faith during this time of uncertainty in our lives.
The future is just over the horizon. Just off Route 66 to be exact. I am humbled by the opportunity to shepherd the flock known as Calvary Baptist in Republic. As this video attests, the church has been blessed with a sweet touch from the Lord these past 50 years. Heather and I are grateful to be a part of its next 50! As you think to, please pray for the church, the city of Republic, and the Mallette family. Pray that Christ would be honored and the Lord’s anointing hand would stay where He laid it today.
